Context and Overview:
India has all the potential to develop into a global shipping hub with a sustainable future. However, a decline has been observed in the share of Indian Shipping Tonnage because of issues such as transportation expense, delays at ports, inadequate mechanical handling, etc. Due to this several organizations are hesitant to add new ships to the Indian fleet. Many propositions have been presented to increase India Controlled Tonnage. This session will explore – creating a level playing field, implementing Bareboat and/or Bareboat-cum-demise charters and founding: India International Ship Register. Additionally, this session will also explore increasing India's insurance capacity in the maritime sector and setting up a maritime arbitration body for maritime disputes.
